The RØDE VXLR+ is an adapter that converts a 3.5mm jack connector to an XLR socket. It is very useful if you want to connect microphones equipped with a 3.5mm jack plug to a device with an XLR socket. The adapter also converts 48-volt phantom power to 3-5 volt plug-in power, which is the standard used on many recorders for electret microphones.
I mainly use it for contact microphones, lavalier microphones, or even binaural microphones like the Roland CS-10em, which all have 3.5mm jack plugs.
The main advantage of this adapter is that it allows you to use several types of microphones on the same recorder. This allows you to benefit from a recorder with better preamps by using several types of microphone connectors.
There are other manufacturers on the market that offer similar products of varying quality. However, to my knowledge, RØDE is the only one to offer a voltage conversion from 48V to 3-5V in such a small format. Other adapters only convert the plug, making them more suitable for dynamic microphones that do not require phantom power.
