Immersive Soundscape is a French boutique shop, based in Nantes, specializing in the production of compact microphones for field recording. Much like renowned brands such as LOM or Micbooster, Immersive Soundscape offers a diverse range of products, including cardioid, omnidirectional, and binaural microphones, as well as connectors tailored for small recorders like the F3 and FR-Av2. A key differentiator for this company is the handcrafted nature of all its microphones, with the added flexibility of custom-made versions to meet specific user requirements.
The Earsight Standard V2 Model: Quality and Discretion
Regarding the Earsight Standard V2 model, its quality is truly remarkable. It stands out for its high sensitivity and extremely low inherent noise level, making it comparable to LOM's Usi Pro microphones, boasting a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 80 dB. This makes it an ideal choice for discrete, high-fidelity recordings.
Here are some key specifications for the Earsight Standard V2 microphone:
Microphone Type:Â Omnidirectional
Maximum Input Sound Pressure Level (SPL):Â 110 dB
Signal-to-Noise Ratio:Â 80 dB
Sensitivity:Â -24 dB
Operating Temperature: -25°C to +70°C
Near-total insensitivity to RF frequencies
Their microphones are available with various connection types: 3.5mm jack, XLR (standard or low-profile), and Microdot. You can also choose cable lengths to suit specific setup needs.
Robust Construction and Exceptional Sound Performance
The build quality is impeccable: XLR versions feature Neutrik connectors, and the cables are from Sommer, known for their solid and durable sheathing. Although the exact capsule type isn't specified on their website, their qualitative performance is comparable to, and often surpasses, the Japanese Primo capsules found in Micbooster and other microphones.
Sonically, the background noise is extremely low, virtually inaudible to the ear. The frequency balance is very well-tuned, delivering a pleasant sonic roundness without sounding too thin or imbalanced across the low and high frequencies.
Here's a comparison video that includes recordings made with the Earsight Standard V2:
I've owned this microphone for a short time, but each use reinforces my great satisfaction with its quality and versatility. It consistently impresses. Among microphones of this type available on the market, the Earsight Standard V2 is, by far, my preferred choice.
